    January Resolution…

    2011 - 01.17

    Nothing from JB.

    Fail…

If only it had been (J)ust in(e) for 120 Days…

    2010 - 12.26

It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been waiting for years to get my hands on even a 75% decent copy of Pasolini’s Salรฒ. Anything that’s been available in this country in the last 2 decades has been very average quality at best. But today I managed to come across a copy of the Blue-Ray remaster. Interestingly MANY people seem to find this an extremely disturbing film, yet it’s never really bothered me even from the first viewing.

Ironically, I also bought the ONLY film I’ve ever watched that truly disturbed me. The scene of the scourging of Jesus in “The Passion of Christ” was the most personally confronting depiction of brutal cruelty from one human being towards another that I’ve yet seen. Perhaps it has begun to fade to the point I begin to wonder if it will effect me the same a second time. I must confess the rest of the movie from that scene on is somewhat hazy.

Ah JB, you’ve done it again!

    A Taste of Gold Harry…

    2010 - 12.19

A couple of months ago I’d received some Gold Class Gift Vouchers from two separate people for whom I’d done some PC recovery work. Since it seemed only fitting I try and make it a worthwhile jaunt, I took Barb to see Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 1 in Gold Class on Friday night.

I’d never been to Gold Class before, so I was interested to see what the fuss is really all about. I have to say firstly that I’m very grateful for the opportunity the others gave me to go see something there. Secondly though, I’m impressed with the experience, but fail to see where the $35 simply for the seat is justified. The Food was good and reasonably priced (contrary to my expectation) and so it appeared was the wine that Barb drank. All in all, no more than Cafe prices for food and drink. So from that perspective I’d say good value. It might be me but I just think that $25 would be a more reasonable ask for the other comforts.

Anyway as I said, I’m grateful, and Barb enjoyed herself too. I did enjoy the movie, but the only reason I went Gold Class was that it was gifted: as I’m almost certain I’d still not have gone even several years from now. After all if I would fork it out for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy of movies, there’s probably not likely to be much else I would.

In Space No One Can Hear You Scream…

    2010 - 11.10

I picked up the Alien Quadrilogy on Blue-Ray today, and now I’ve watched “Alien” tonight. It’s magnificent. I saw it when it was released in 1979, and I’ve not seen this film look so good except at the cinema those times I’ve seen it there (a few over the years when it’s been on).

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve watch these movies, but this was like watching it afresh. There’s no doubt the first is my personal favourite, it’s always rated in my top ten films! The first in particular is a film with beautiful use of texture and colour, despite it’s attempt to portray space and human society as bleak. This remaster breathes fresh life back into the film for me, I’m drooling (like an Alien) over the richness again.

Both this and Bladerunner demonstrate what a master of his craft Ridley Scott is and how early he hit his stride.

I’ve been waiting for this particular release (more than most) since it was clear Blue-Ray was the format for HD, and I’ve not been disappointed. I just hope that Indiana Jones, and Star Wars get such TLC when they’re finally released on BD.

    As expendable as my income…

    2010 - 09.06

I went to see “The Expendables” tonight, and I’m left in turmoil dealing with the characterisation from Stallone, of a Spiritual and Emotional mercenary…Still it was a bit of a hoot. Interesting to see that the over the top “exploding gore” and hand held WoMD are slipping into “acceptable use” in films now.

    Beyond Poe…

    2010 - 08.10

Went to see Inception tonight with an old friend whom I’ve not seen since the start of the year. Odd experience I must say on both accounts. This is one of those movies I feel the need to see again to get my head completely around and I feel as much confused as I enjoyed the film. Edgar Allan Poe would have been amused I think: A Dream within a Dream within a Dream. On a side note, I’ve begun to enjoy watching Leonardo Dicaprio in his more recent films when he’s not being portrayed as simply a handsome lead. This is also odd…

    A night of oddities!

    Safety Chute…

    2010 - 06.17

How is it that “Bladerunner” always manages to ground me when much fails?

To be Open is to Close…

    2010 - 05.21

I’ve spent the best parts of both my teenage and adult life avoiding being close to people and letting them into who I am. I’ve used sex as an avoidance mechanism and it’s worked so successfully, that when it came down to it, Sammy and I couldn’t allow ourselves (either of us) to loosen the inner vault door that final few inches to let another cross in as completely as possible for two people. It’s a bit more complicated than that, and there was baggage on both sides. In the end we both had agreed we just couldn’t go there. Lost opportunities *sigh* sometimes they’re hard to swallow when the opportunity is permanently lost…

The perversity of the Cosmos is that when I actually wish to do this with another, and start to try doing so it negates the opportunity of apparent unattached sex and anything else, and there’s no escape from the feelings! I thought I’d be doing a better job and starting from a better point in the first place, by opening up, but somehow it’s gone elsewhere, no doubt in the Cosmos’ direction for me. It’s not necessarily the opposite of what I would hope, but it’s not how I would have preferred it to go. Not that I really know I guess. I ponder, but meaning is missing for me at the moment. I guess more will become apparent, but there definitely seems to be something crazy with how this show is written so far, I’m sure I didn’t write this script. But then again I always was wanting instant gratification, and there’s no doubt this time I didn’t, so I guess I got that right.

There is humour in this in a black way I guess…

    Automatic purchase…

    2010 - 04.15

Well there are times I just can’t help myself and just cave in to the instant gratification and lack of thought. After all my ranting and concern about the release of Lord of the Rings on Blue-Ray, what did I do? I walked straight into JB today and walked out with a copy of each of the movies in the trilogy…

    A quick Dock in Port…

    2010 - 04.10

Fun night, bit of “hanging” around with “encouragement” by an old friend, although left to sleep alone and no breakfast duet… ๐Ÿ™

Still worked off the week’s work angst ๐Ÿ™‚ And it rained last night and this morning, so a not too shabby start to a weekend.

Did manage a quick slip into JB HiFi early last night before the show and picked up “9” on Blue-Ray. Should enjoy that tonight I think.
